WORSHIP
The act of public worship is for the purpose of honoring, praising, and hopefully encountering God. We assemble at Hitchcock and virtually on Sunday mornings throughout the year for Christian worship, which consists of scripture readings, prayers, the sermon, singing songs of faith, and other forms of liturgy and music. At Hitchcock we have been blessed with a long-standing tradition of musical excellence. Music is central to the worship experience and from the youngest voices to the oldest, our music ministry engages us all to "make a joyful noise to the Lord." We also celebrate communion once a month and the sacrament of baptism as requested.
MUSIC
"O sing to the Lord a new song; sing to the Lord, all the earth."
Psalm 96:1
Music contributes to the praise and prayer of a Christian congregation. It helps us look beyond ourselves, to God, and to the world, which is the object of God's love. The epigram "Whoever sings [to God, in worship], prays twice," suggests that when we sing praise and prayer instead of simply speaking, we add something important to the utterance. Music Ministry at Hitchcock is an active and vital facet of our life as a congregation. We are blessed with a congregation that loves to sing, and by many members who share their musical talents, both vocal and instrumental, to greatly enhance our worship experience.
Throughout the year, the choirs focus on preparing music for the weekly services. They also prepare and present special festival Services of Music, offering major choral works. These services, as well as organ concerts, have become important outreaches of the Music Ministry here at Hitchcock. We continue to offer ourselves to God through the service of music, and all are welcome to participate. If you would like more information about any of the music programs, or to participate in any choir, contact Dr. John T. King, Minister of Music, or contact the church office.
